Police respond to 'situation' on Sabattus Street in Lewiston

Sabattus Street reopened late Saturday night.

LEWISTON, Maine — Update: Law enforcement officials began to clear the scene around 10:30 p.m. Saturday. Maine State Police told NEWS CENTER Maine that this incident was a standoff. More details are expected to be released Sunday. Sabattus Street has since been reopened. 

Story: Multiple police agencies responded to a "situation" on Sabattus Street in Lewiston Saturday night.

According to a Facebook post by Lewiston Police, Sabattus St. traffic is being detoured onto Chadbourne Road/Old Chadbourne Road.

Lieutenant Derrick St. Laurent confirmed the Lewiston Police Department is currently working on a death investigation with Maine State Police. It is unclear as of Saturday night if the two incidents are related.

Maine State Police confirmed that a tactical team and crisis negotiation team are at the scene on Sabattus Street.
