Pedestrian fatally injured in crash on I-95 in Augusta

The man's vehicle was parked along the side of I-95, and an investigation is underway to determine why he was out of his vehicle and standing in the lane.

AUGUSTA, Maine — A man from Kennebec County died Friday after he was hit by a truck on Interstate 95 in Augusta. 

Matthew Galletta, 55, of Manchester was standing in the right lane of I-95 southbound near Mile Marker 111 when he was struck by a pickup truck at about 5:20 a.m., Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release. 

Galletta's vehicle was parked along the side of I-95, and an investigation is underway to determine why he was out of his vehicle and standing in the lane, Moss said. 

Galletta was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the truck suffered minor injuries, according to the release. The identity of the truck driver has not been released. 

Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact Trooper Daniel Grenier at 207-624-7076 ext. 9.
