PALMYRA, Maine — Maine State Police and the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office are investigating an incident in Palmyra.

The incident happened shortly before 3 a.m. on Madawaska Road, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said Friday in a press release.

Officials have not said anything further about the nature of the incident.

"At this time there is no known danger to the public," Moss said. "Additional information will be released when it's available."

As of 10:10 a.m. Friday, Madawaska Road was closed to traffic, and law enforcement officials were telling people to avoid the area. Moss said officials did not know how long the road would be closed.

Moss shared an update with NEWS CENTER Maine at 3:30 p.m. noting that the road had reopened, but no new information about the incident was released at that time.
