Identity of victim in fatal St. George house fire released

An investigation determined that the man who died, 62-year-old Andrew Bowser, had lived alone at the home.

ST GEORGE, Maine — State officials have identified the victim in a fatal house fire that happened in St. George on March 27.

Shortly after 7:45 a.m. that day, fire crews responded to a house fire at 272 Clark Island Rd. in St. George, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release.

While crews with the St. George Fire Department were working to extinguish the fire, they found a deceased adult male, Moss said.

The man's body was taken to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for an autopsy.

The state fire marshal's office responded to the scene to begin an investigation and it was determined that the man who died, 62-year-old Andrew Bowser, had lived alone at the home.

Moss said the home was a rental property, and the investigation determined Bowser was responsible for causing the fire.

The exact cause of the fire was not released.

According to Moss, this is the second fire fatality in Maine this year.

Fire departments from South Thomaston, Thomaston, Owls Head, Cushing, and Warren assisted at the scene. The Knox County Sheriff's Office and St. George and South Thomaston Rescue also assisted.
