Vehicle crashes into York convenience store

The building along Route 1 had some structural damage, according to fire officials.

YORK, Maine — A gas station convenience store along Route 1 in York was closed Wednesday while crews worked to repair structural damage caused when a truck hit building the evening before.

Emergency officials in York responded to a call around 5 p.m. Tuesday about a crash.

When they arrived at the scene, they found a pickup truck that hopped the curb onto the walkway at the front entrance to Mr. Mike's Mini Mart and crashed into the building and a window, the York Fire Department said in a post on Facebook.

Photos shared by the department appear to show an indentation in the bricked exterior, but the window looked to be intact. A handrail also was seen flattened by the crash.

One person was evaluated by ambulance crews; no other injuries were reported.

Crews stayed at the scene for about an hour while they worked to secure power and check the integrity of the building, then the truck was removed by a towing company.

York police told NEWS CENTER Maine no charges were expected.

Kyle Read, the store manager, said they were closed Wednesday for repairs. They were able to reopen by Thursday.
