Motorcyclist dies after crash involving moose in Penobscot County

Maine State Police are still investigating the crash that happened on I-95 near Millinocket Monday night.

PENOBSCOT COUNTY, Maine — Maine State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a moose and a motorcycle on Interstate 95 in Penobscot County Monday.

Police responded to the crash at mile marker 240 southbound in T2 R9, which is south of Millinocket, at around 7 p.m., Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said Wednesday in a press release. 

Anand Sreedharan, 50, of Princeton, New Jersey, was on the motorcycle when a moose crossed into his lane. The moose and the motorcycle collided. 

Sreedharan was thrown off his motorcycle and died from his injuries, Moss said. The moose also died. 

Maine State Police was assisted by multiple agencies in its response. The crash is still being investigated.
