Motorcyclist seriously injured after being hit by car in Naples, police say

The sheriff's office said driver inattention is considered a factor in the crash. The motorcyclist was flown to Maine Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

NAPLES, Maine — A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash Saturday afternoon when a vehicle reportedly turned into his path at an intersection in Naples.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that it responded shortly before 1 p.m. to the intersection of Roosevelt Trail and Kansas Road after receiving a call about a crash involving a motorcycle and sedan.

Upon arrival, they found that the motorcyclist, 29-year-old Daniel Faubert of Saco, was seriously injured in the collision. Faubert was flown by helicopter to Maine Medical Center with serious and potentially life-threatening injuries, they said in the release.

An early crash investigation led officials to believe that 18-year-old Austin Costa of Naples, who was the driver of the car involved in the crash, was turning left onto Roosevelt Trail from Kansas Road when Faubert, who was traveling westbound on Roosevelt Trail, collided with the vehicle, striking the driver's side door of the sedan.

Costa and a juvenile passenger were not injured, according to officials.

The sheriff's office said driver inattention is considered a factor in the crash, and Costa was issued a summons at the scene for failing to yield to right-of-way traffic.

The sheriff's office was aided by Naples Fire Department, Bridgton Fire Department, and LifeFlight of Maine at the scene of the crash.
