CLINTON, Maine — A 20-year-old man was seriously injured Sunday when the moped he was operating veered into a ditch and flipped over in the town of Clinton.
Emergency officials with Clinton's fire and police departments responded to the scene of the crash on Hill Road around 3:45 p.m., where they found the man unresponsive.
The man, whose identity has not been released was brought by Clinton Rescue to Thayer Medical Center in Waterville before being airlifted immediately by LifeFlight of Maine to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Clinton police said Monday in a news release.
The 20-year-old, who was the sole occupant in the crash, was listed in serious condition, officials said Monday.
Early investigation into the crash indicates the operator of the moped was traveling south on Hill Road when he veered off the road and into the ditch, causing the moped to flip over. Investigators said the reason why the moped veered off the road remained unclear as of the time of the release.
However, investigators shared that initial assessments suggest "the possibility of a serious medical event suffered by the male operator," according to the release.
