MEXICO, Maine — Maine State Police are investigating after a woman was found dead following a fire at a home in the town of Mexico on Thursday.
It happened around 7 a.m. at 5 Tucker St., Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said Friday in a news release.
The Mexico Fire Department and several other area fire departments responded to the home and found flames primarily coming from the front porch, the release stated.
Firefighters were able to rescue one woman from the residence using a ladder. The woman was not injured, according to Moss.
Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters found a woman dead inside the home, the release stated. The woman's body was brought to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
In an update Wednesday, the woman was identified as 23-year-old Lacey Tidswell of Mexico. Moss said her cause and manner of death are not being released at this time.
In a social media post, the Mexico Fire Department described the fire scene as "very difficult."
The state fire marshal's office and state police responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, which remains open and ongoing, Moss said.
Moss added that there is no danger to the public in connection with the woman's death, adding additional information would be released at a later date.
