MAINE, USA — A man from Maryland was arrested following an alleged domestic violence incident and standoff with law enforcement on Sunday.
At approximately 1:45 a.m., the Oxford County Sheriff's Office, Bridgton Police Department, and United Ambulance Service responded to a home on Black Mountain Road for a reported aggravated domestic violence assault, according to a news release from the Oxford County Sheriff's Office.
A 64-year-old woman from Sweden had been assaulted and suffered a head injury that was considered not life-threatening, the sheriff's office said. She was reportedly able to leave the residence and was brought to a hospital.
Deputies established a perimeter after the suspect, 65-year-old Godfrey Shepherd of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, was determined to still be inside the home and attempts of contacting him failed.
At approximately 5:10 a.m., a search warrant was executed and found Shepherd inside the home. Shepherd was arrested without incident and charged with elevated aggravated domestic violence assault and creating a police standoff, according to the release.
Shepherd was admitted to the Oxford County Jail.
