The incident happened on Park Loop Road near the Cadillac North Ridge Trail Monday afternoon, the National Park Service said.

BAR HARBOR, Maine —

A man suffered "significant injuries" Monday after falling off his bicycle at Acadia National Park.

Park rangers responded to a 70-year-old man who had fallen off his road bicycle on Park Loop Road near the Cadillac North Ridge Trail around 1 p.m., according to a news release from the National Park Service.

The man had reportedly lost control of his bicycle after his foot came loose from a clip-in pedal, then fell off head-first. He is an experienced road bicyclist and was wearing a helmet, the National Park Service said.

Park rangers performed life-saving measures. The man was brought to downtown Bar Harbor, then to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor by LifeFlight of Maine where he remains in "critical condition."
