Troopers respond to 20 crashes on I-95, only two injured

On Saturday afternoon, Troopers responded to multiple vehicles sliding off the roads due to black ice between Waterville and Bangor.

BANGOR, Maine — Maine’s Department of Public Safety sent out a press release Saturday afternoon, reporting multiple crashes on I-95, in the Greater Bangor area.

On Dec. 9 at approximately 12:30 p.m. Troopers responded to eight crashes after vehicles reportedly hit black ice and slid off roads north of Waterville, heading towards Bangor, according to the release.

The interstate southbound from mile 174 to 159 was shut down due to poor road conditions. Troopers reported a tractor-trailer that ended up sideways across the interstate, resulting in one rollover crash. There were only minor injuries, according to the release.

After the road reopened, Troopers responded to 12 crashes due to black ice at mile 188 southbound of Bangor. One person was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release.

Maine State Police were assisted by county and municipal agencies and reduced the speed limit in the area to 45 MPH.
