Maine State Police investigate rollover crash on I-95 in Fairfield

Two men from Rockland were involved in a single-car crash Wednesday night. One was taken to the hospital.

FAIRFIELD, Maine — The Maine State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that happened Wednesday night in Fairfield on Interstate 95.

Troopers responded to the crash on I-95 at mile marker 131.5 northbound in Fairfield around 9:38 p.m., Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a Thursday news release.

Upon arrival, troopers found a 2013 Grand Cherokee flipped over onto its roof in the median and said bystanders were helping the occupants of the crash.

Passenger Jimal Gerard, 35, of Rockland was able to crawl out of the vehicle to safety and sustained minor injuries. Driver Derrick Plowden, 25, of Rockland had to be extricated from the vehicle, Moss said.

Plowden was transported to Maine Medical Center where he is in "stable but critical condition."

Moss said speed and "suspected impairment" are likely factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Waterville Fire and Rescue, MaineDOT, and Ace Tire assisted at the scene.

Anyone with additional information about the crash can contact Trooper Randy Hall at 207-624-7076 ext. 9.
