AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine State House was evacuated Friday morning after a bomb threat was made, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release.
The threat reportedly targeted two Maine legislators, the State House, and the Maine Democratic Party, according to the release.
Moss said the threat was discovered by a legislator, who received it by email.
Maine Capitol Police were made aware of the threat at about 7:15 a.m. and ordered the evacuation of the Capitol building.
About 100 people were in the building at the time, and no injuries were reported, Moss said in the release.
An investigation of the building by the Maine State Police Bomb Unit and police dogs did not find anything, and the area was cleared.
The Augusta Police Department and other agencies aided in clearing the Democratic Party offices, which are located on Water Street, and the homes of the two legislators who were targeted, Moss said.
No explosives were found at any of the locations searched, and the threat was deemed a hoax, police said.
