WOOLWICH, Maine — A missing person from Bath has been located and treated for the early stages of hypothermia, according to a Thursday news release from the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office.
Sagadahoc County deputies responded to calls of a missing person from Bath on Thursday at 1:02 a.m. after the Bath Police Department took a report from family members of 31-year-old Zachary Severy, who had been missing for six hours. His family said he was long overdue in returning from work, according to the release.
Severy is a marine worm digger who was working in the Phipps Point area of Woolwich when he went missing. Deputies arrived in the area of the DeWick Farm in Woolwich and found Severy's car parked and located by his mother who had gone to search for him, the release stated.
Deputies called in help from the Maine Marine Patrol, Maine Warden Service, and the Brunswick Police Department to deploy their drones and search along the shore of Back River.
At 2:05 a.m. Deputy Norm Gove made voice contact with Severy, who was stranded on Pine Island. The Marine Patrol launched a boat and retrieved Severy from the island, where he had been for approximately seven hours. His clothes were reportedly wet and he appeared to be in the early stages of hypothermia, according to the release.
Severy was treated by Woolwich EMS.
Pine Island is located in the Back River off the west shore, near Bluff Road, where Severy had been working on the flats, but became stranded due to a quick incoming tide, the release stated.
Deputy Gove was assisted by Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office Deputy Garrett Olson and Deputy William Hagan in the search. Multiple units from the Maine Marine Patrol, Maine Warden Service, and Brunswick Police Department also assisted.
