Motorcyclist dies in Canton after being rear-ended by sedan, police say

Early investigation suggests the motorcyclist was rear-ended by a car. The motorcyclist from Leeds was pronounced dead at the scene.

CANTON, Maine — A man from Leeds who was traveling on a motorcycle has died after apparently being hit by a car in the town of Canton. 

Deputies with the Oxford County Sheriff's Office responded to a call about a crash involving a car and a motorcycle shortly after 5 p.m. Monday in the area of Turner Street, also known as Route 108, according to a news release issued Tuesday by the sheriff's office. 

A motorcyclist identified as 44-year-old Travis Boivin was reported dead at the scene. 

Early investigation indicates the motorcycle was struck from behind by a four-door sedan, according to the release. The driver of the car was not injured in the crash. 

Deputies were assisted at the scene by Canton Fire Department, Livermore Fire Department, and personnel with Med-Care Ambulance service. 

The road was closed for several hours Monday during crash reconstruction and cleanup, with assistance by Windham police. 

The crash remains under investigation.
