Cooling centers: Where you can go to beat the heat

The Maine Emergency Management Agency has listed cooling centers across Maine for those looking for some relief.
Wandering can be life-threatening any time of the year, but even more so during excessive heat.

PORTLAND, Maine — A recent wave of humidity intensified temperatures in the 80s and 90s, most likely leaving Mainers desperate for the sweet relief of air conditioning. 

The Maine Emergency Management Agency has 8 cooling centers listed on its site, but that number is subject to change.

List of centers currently open

Bridgton 

Where: Bridgton Community Center, 15 Depot St., Bridgton

When: Monday, July 15 through Sunday, July 21, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Canton Town Office

Where: 94 Turner St., Canton

When: Tuesday and Thursday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Cape Elizabeth

Where: Thomas Memorial Library, 6 Scott Dyer Rd.

When: Monday, July 15 through Sunday, July 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Charging ports are available.

Falmouth 

Family Ice Arena

Where: 20 Hat Trick Drive

When: Monday through Friday 4 a.m. to midnight, Saturday through Sunday 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Falmouth Memorial Library

Where: 5 Lunt Rd. 

When: Mon-Sat 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Available for cooling, water, and outlets for charging.

Mason-Motz Activity Center

Where: Mason-Motz Activity Center 190 Middle Road

When: Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Lisbon

Where: Lisbon Police Department, 300 Lisbon St.

When: The Lisbon Police Department lobby is always open 24/7 for residents to come and cool down. If space runs out, the department will open up its training room.

Scarborough

Where:  Scarborough Public Library, 9 Gorham Rd. 

When: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Water, WIFI, phone charging, study/telecommuting space).
