BRADFORD, Maine — Four people were injured following a crash involving a horse-drawn buggy Friday morning in Bradford.
Maine state troopers responded to a report of a crash involving a vehicle and a horse-drawn buggy shortly after 7:30 a.m. Friday on Main Road in Bradford, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release.
Moss said the initial investigation determined the driver of a white 2017 Ford SUV was traveling south on Main Road and attempted to pass the horse-drawn buggy while another vehicle was approaching from the opposite direction.
To avoid the oncoming vehicle, the driver of the Ford SUV, identified as 28-year-old Kendra Page of Bradford, attempted to wedge between the horse-drawn buggy.
"Page didn’t have enough room and struck the buggy from behind," the release stated. "The three occupants in the buggy were ejected and the horse suffered life-threatening injuries which caused it to be dispatched (put down)."
The Bradford Fire Department closed the road while other emergency crews attended to the crash.
Page and the three occupants of the buggy were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, according to Moss.
The crash remains under investigation by Maine State Police.
