YORK COUNTY, Maine — A High Surf Advisory has been issued for parts of southern coastal Maine through Sunday night.

The advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. for coastal York County and coastal Rockingham County in New Hampshire, according to the National Weather Service Gray. Large breaking waves of five to six feet are expected along with dangerous swimming and surfing conditions.

A High Surf Advisory was also issued for parts of coastal Maine on Saturday.

The Old Orchard Beach Fire Department asked swimmers to remain out of the water while an offshore storm system creates breaking waves and dangerous rip currents.

Lifeguard coverage for Old Orchard Beach ended on Sept. 3, according to the fire department.

"If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don`t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help," the Old Orchard Beach Fire Department said.
