Fire in Hermon leaves home uninhabitable, fire chief says

The flames did not spread outside the home, but Hermon's fire chief said the building is now considered uninhabitable.

HERMON, Maine — Emergency crews from Hermon and several other agencies in the area responded to a house fire Wednesday on George Road.

Firefighters at the scene told NEWS CENTER Maine they arrived at the scene around 11:30 a.m. and were able to contain the blaze within about 15 minutes.

The flames did not spread outside the home, but Hermon Fire Chief Cody Sullivan said the building is considered uninhabitable as a result of the fire.

“There was some moderate fire damage to heavy fire damage in the kitchen area of the home with heat and smoke damage throughout the rest of the residence," Sullivan said. "It was a large response. We upgraded to a second alarm when Penobscot Regional Communications Center provided us with additional details that it was a working building fire.”

According to Sullivan, two dogs died in the fire, and one firefighter suffered minor injuries while responding.
