Road back open following gas leak in Lewiston, police say

The fire and police departments responded to Getty Gas and temporarily blocked off Lisbon Street.

LEWISTON, Maine — The Lewiston Fire Department responded to a gas leak Wednesday afternoon at Getty Gas.

Lisbon Street was blocked off at around 3:20 p.m., according to Lewiston Police Sgt. Roger Landry.

A NEWS CENTER Maine crew on the scene said the road was reopened at around 4:15 p.m. Simard & Sons, a gas company based out of Lewiston, could be seen working on the gas pumps at the station.

A vehicle crashed into the pump closest to the road, according to an employee with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection.

The employee said a valve broke off the pump, causing gas to leak out into the parking lot and sidewalk.

Simard & Sons was working to repair the pump.
