Fryeburg man charged for allegedly possessing child sex abuse images

New Hampshire's Conway Police Department said it started investigating the man due to suspicious activity at a high school boys' soccer game.

CONWAY, N.H. — A man from Fryeburg is facing charges for allegedly possessing child sex abuse images.

Two female students at Kennett High School in Conway, New Hampshire, reported to their school resource officer a man's suspicious activity at a boys' soccer game on Thursday, Sept. 19, Conway Police Chief Christopher Mattei said in a press release.

After a brief interaction with the man, identified as 43-year-old Christopher Evans of Fryeburg, police took him into custody for loitering and prowling. He was released later that evening, according to Mattei.

Following the incident, police decided to do a more in-depth investigation into Evans' conduct. As a result of the investigation, police were granted a warrant for Evans' arrest, according to the release.

Fryeburg police served that warrant and arrested Evans at his home on Saturday morning, Mattei said.

Police charged Evans with possession of child sex abuse images. He was extradited to New Hampshire on Thursday, where he is currently being held at the Carroll County House of Corrections.

Mattei thanked the school resource officers, Conway officers, and the Fryeburg Police Department for assisting in the investigation.

"Most of all, I would like to thank the two female Kennett students who had the sense of awareness to know that something was not right and the courage to take appropriate action in reporting the incident," Mattei wrote in the press release.
