Fatal crash in Stetson under investigation

Two people were trapped inside the truck when emergency officials arrived at the scene in the early hours Friday. One person was pronounced dead at the scene.

STETSON, Maine — A fatal crash that occurred shortly after midnight in the town of Stetson is under investigation.

Dispatchers in Penobscot County received a call around 12:10 a.m. Friday about a crash on Mullen Road, according to a news release from the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office.

When emergency officials arrived at the scene, they reportedly found two people trapped inside a truck that deputies said appeared to have left the road and crashed into trees, the release stated.

One of the people in the truck was pronounced dead at the scene, despite attempts to render life-saving efforts, the agency said.

The condition of the other person involved in the crash was not released.

The sheriff's office said Friday it was not releasing the names of the two individuals involved in the crash and said at the time the release was issued that they would not be releasing any additional information.
