PALMYRA, Maine — Maine State Police are investigating a crash on Interstate 95 in Palmyra that led to one death and several other crashes.
Just before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Bangor Regional Communications Center was notified of a crash near mile marker 155 northbound on I-95, according to a news release from Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.
Several callers reported a vehicle in the median and part of the guardrail in the northbound travel lanes, Moss said.
A preliminary investigation revealed 21-year-old Isaac Lemieux of Lewiston was driving a white Toyota 4Runner when the vehicle left the roadway, struck a guardrail, and rolled over several times.
Lemieux was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Moss, and speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash.
Multiple other vehicles struck the guardrail in the left passing lane, which resulted in other crashes. Minor and no injuries were reported from drivers involved in the additional crashes, Moss said.
Newport Fire and Rescue, MaineDOT, and Blanchard's Towing assisted at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
