Gouldsboro man, 32, dies in ATV crash in Washington County

The driver died at the scene. A passenger was brought to a nearby hospital for evaluation and was released.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Maine — A man from Gouldsboro has died following an ATV crash Sunday in Washington County.

The crash took place at about 12:15 p.m. on the 42-000 road in Township 36, Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife spokesperson Mark Latti said Monday in a news release.

Ethan Taylor, 32, was operating the side-by-side UTV when a dog riding in the vehicle jumped out, Latti said. Taylor reportedly turned back to look at the dog and in doing so turned the steering wheel as well, causing the vehicle to start to roll, which prompted him to overcorrect the steering and subsequently roll the vehicle.

"Taylor fell out of the UTV and then became pinned underneath the machine after it rolled over on him," the release stated.

He died at the scene.

A 27-year-old passenger from Gouldsboro who was riding in the UTV at the time of the crash was brought to Down East Community Hospital for an exam and was released.

Taylor's body was brought to Bragdon-Kelly Funeral Home, according to the release.

The Maine Warden Service was assisted by Grand Lake Stream Fire Department, LifeFlight of Maine, and the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

The crash is under investigation.
