Pilot makes emergency landing near Poland Spring facility in York County

The pilot was low on fuel and authorities said the plane will be refueled so it can take off from the site.

HOLLIS, Maine — A pilot low on fuel made an emergency landing in York County Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

Joseph Bowen, 57, of Norway, was piloting a blue and white Cessna 180 around 2 p.m. when he landed on Killick Pond Road in Hollis near a Poland Spring facility.

"Deputies arrived to find a ... Cessna model 180 plane parked in front of the Poland Springs facility," York County Sheriff William King said in a news release.

The pilot was uninjured.

King said the plane will be stored at the Poland Spring facility until it can be disassembled and trailered away, at the direction of the Federal Aviation Administration.
