WATERBORO, Maine — A York County Sheriff's deputy responded to a RSU 57 school bus Monday due to some rowdy students.

The bus driver for the district, which serves Massabesic High School and Middle School, called the transportation department Monday afternoon expressing concerns about several students who were not adhering to safety measures, RSU 57 Superintendent Dr. Stephen Marquis wrote in a letter to parents.

The call was made after repeated requests for several students to stop their unsafe behavior.

"The issues report included excessive noise, movement between seats, and roughhousing, which can compromise the safety of all passengers," Marquis wrote.

The district did not say exactly where the bus was when it reached out for help, or how far along on the route the bus was.

The school resource officer was not available to respond, so the transportation dispatcher contacted the York County Sheriff's Department. A deputy was dispatched and boarded the bus to speak with students, Marquis said.

The bus was able to continue on its route, and all students were transported home safely.

"We take student safety very seriously and will be reviewing video footage of the incident to determine appropriate disciplinary measures, in line with our school board policy," Marquis said. "Our goal is to foster a safe and respectful environment for all students on our buses."
