Original Story

Residents who use water from the Town of Bethel are being advised to conserve and boil water.

A conserve and boil water order was issued Thursday for the Bethel Water District, according to the town's website.

In an update Friday morning, a town official told NEWS CENTER Maine the town hoped to have water restored to all areas by the end of the day Friday. The town is still asking people to conserve water and to obey the boil water order.

"Water is currently being restored to most locations," the town said in a social media post Friday. "The reservoir is filling while repairs are being done."

According to the town, the boil water order comes as a result of a major leak in one of the town's water pipes.

"We are asking those that have water to conserve it," the website stated. "Many people in our Town currently have low water pressure or no water at all."

Residents are advised to boil water out of precaution. Those who have their own well and water supply do not need to follow these orders.

"The water department is aware of the situation and are actively working on ways to solve it," the town stated Thursday.

The Bethel Chamber of Commerce passed out drinking water to families Thursday between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

According to the town, there will be a limit of one case of water per family.
