CANTON, Maine — A man from Oxford County died Monday after the vehicle he was driving went off the road in Canton.

Jared Bernard, 22, of Peru was killed in the crash, the Oxford County Sheriff's Office said in a release. He was the only person in the vehicle.

It happened shortly before 5:30 a.m. on Route 108, also referred to as Turner Street, the release stated.

Investigators say Bernard was traveling east in a four-door Cadillac sedan when the vehicle went off the roadway, hit a driveway, went airborne, hit a telephone pole, hit another driveway, hit a tree, and ultimately came to rest on the driver's side.

The Canton and Peru fire departments also responded to the scene, along with Med-Care Ambulance.

Route 108 was closed for several hours during the crash investigation, which remains ongoing, the sheriff's office said.
