BUXTON, Maine — Police in Buxton were asking locals to stay inside and lock their doors Friday night while they were responding to what they called an "active police incident."

Police said a search for a person who was believed to be armed and dangerous was focused in the area of Parker Farm Road and Webster Road, according to a post the department shared around 7:40 p.m. Friday on social media.

Police were assisting the U.S. Marshal Service in attempting to locate a male suspect who is wanted for a violent crime in another jurisdiction.

The male had an active warrant for his arrest and was being sought by law enforcement in that area, including a police dog team, according to law enforcement.

In an update, Buxton police said after an hours-long search, officials said suspect was no longer believed to be in the area.

Police asked that anyone who sees suspicious activity to report it to dispatch.

U.S. Marshal Chief Kevin Neal shared Saturday that the matter was part of an ongoing investigation but said no further information would be provided at this time.
