BRADFORD, Maine — A gun-wielding Bradford man who threatened his wife and refused police commands to surrender himself, triggering a shelter-in-place order for his neighbors Monday morning, has been arrested, according to police.
Timothy Philpot, 60, faces a host of charges.
Maine State Police said troopers responded to the couple's Drake Road residence around 7 a.m. Monday after receiving a report of a domestic violence situation.
"Philpot was carrying a firearm and was outside his residence on a public way refusing to comply with commands to surrender himself," police said in a statement Monday afternoon. "For the safety of the public in that area a shelter in place advisory was issued. Philpot’s wife was able to get out of the house safely and was not injured."
Police said Philpot was taken into custody after several hours of negotiations. He was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor and then to the Penobscot County Jail. He was charged with domestic violence threatening, refusal to submit to arrest/detention, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, and felony criminal mischief.
Bradford is about 20 miles north of Bangor in Penobscot County.
