BANGOR, Maine — A police investigation is underway in Bangor following the death of an infant.
Bangor police responded to an emergency call around 10 a.m. Tuesday about an infant that was found unresponsive at a home in the Capehart neighborhood, the department said in a news release.
Police said in the release that the infant was reportedly in a crib when it was found unresponsive by family members, who then called for help.
Bangor police and fire attempted to resuscitate the child by performing CPR, but the infant did not recover.
Because the death is considered unattended, detectives and evidence technicians were called to assist at the scene, which police said in the release was standard protocol for all unattended deaths.
Police said family members were cooperating with investigators.
An autopsy will be performed by the state medical examiner's office as part of the investigation, which police said is active and ongoing.
