Police investigate death of 1-month-old baby in Biddeford

Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South are assisting Biddeford police in the investigation of the child's death.

BIDDEFORD, Maine — An investigation is underway following the death of a 1-month-old baby who was found unresponsive in Biddeford last month.

Emergency officials were called to a residence on Emery Street around 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, for a 1-month-old baby that was found unresponsive, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said Wednesday.

Biddeford police and fire departments responded to the call and brought the child to Southern Maine Hospital in Biddeford before being transferred to Maine Medical Center.

The child died several days later on June 20.

Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South is assisting Biddeford police with the investigation into the child's death. Moss said a police investigation is standard protocol for the death of a child this age.

An autopsy was performed on June 21 by the state chief medical examiner's office, but the cause and manner of death are being withheld pending the ongoing investigation, Moss said.
