Crews respond to ammonia leak at Scarborough business

Lincoln Avenue, a road off Route 1, has reopened after crews responded to a call about an ammonia leak at It'll Be Pizza.

SCARBOROUGH, Maine — Emergency crews in Scarborough responded around noon Monday to a reported ammonia leak on Lincoln Avenue. 

A section of Lincoln Avenue, from Route 1 to Washington Avenue, has reopened to traffic after it closed Monday afternoon while crews worked the scene, according to Scarborough fire officials.

Scarborough firefighters were dispatched to It'll Be Pizza located at 5 Lincoln Ave. for the reported leak around 11:44 a.m., according to a news release from the department. 

The business was evacuated before firefighters arrived, and no employees of the business or firefighters were injured, the Scarborough Fire Department said. There was no threat to the public, according to fire officials.

According to an update sent by local fire officials around 5:10 p.m., firefighters have cleared the scene after the building was ventilated and turned over to It'll Be Pizza building representatives for repairs. 

Portland and South Portland Fire Department hazmat crews, the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, and the Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency assisted at the scene, the release stated.

Scarborough Fire is currently on scene of an Ammonia leak at 5 Lincoln Ave. Lincoln Ave is currently closed, Route 1 to Washington Ave while crews work to mitigate the issue.
