The body of a Windham man missing for nearly a year has been found in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, authorities announced Monday.
Alex Jackson, 34, went missing in mid-May last year. Joseph Chute, 30, of Leeds, last month was arrested and accused of killing Jackson.
Jackson's body was found Friday in the small town of Stark, according to New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella. The cause and manner of Jackson's death were not released.
Authorities have released few details about the charges against Chute.
When Jackson went missing last year, police said he may have been traveling to Vermont. He was believed to be with his dog, but his family found the animal soon after he went missing.
"Additional information will be released when it’s appropriate to do so," Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said Friday in a release.
The Maine State Police were assisted by the Windham Police Department, Maine Warden Service, New Hampshire State Police, and New Hampshire Fish and Wildlife Department in recovering Jackson's body.
