SHIRLEY, Maine — Several adults and children were injured in a crash involving a moose Friday night in Shirley.
Shortly before 9:30 p.m., deputies received a report about a head-on crash on Greenville Road in Shirley, the Piscataquis County Sheriff's Office said on social media.
Deputies said an investigation revealed a Jeep Cherokee was traveling south when it struck a moose, causing the vehicle to cross over the center line and hit a Chevrolet Suburban that was traveling north.
Eight people were injured in the crash. Of the eight, four were adults and four were children. Seven of those who were injured were taken to Northern Light CA Dean Hospital for treatment. A 5-year-old was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center where he remains in "serious but stable condition," according to the release.
The Greenville police and fire departments, as well as the Northern Light CA Dean ambulance, assisted at the scene.
No additional details were released.
