Acadia National Park: Bacteria levels in Sand Beach Lagoon exceed standards

Bacteria levels at the lagoon have reportedly exceeded public health standards, prompting a public health advisory to be posted, according to park officials.

MOUNT DESERT, Maine — Acadia National Park officials are warning the public about unhealthy bacteria levels detected at Sand Beach Lagoon.

Bacteria levels at the lagoon have reportedly exceeded public health standards, prompting a public health advisory to be posted, the park said Wednesday on Facebook.

Officials reiterated the dangerous levels are only at Sand Beach Lagoon, not Sand Beach.

"The public is advised against swimming at Sand Beach Lagoon until bacterial levels return to healthful levels," the post stated.
