Driver injured after crashing into emergency responder's vehicle parked at crash site in Abbot

A 2022 Chevrolet pickup truck crashed into a parked vehicle belonging to a member of the Guilford Fire Department.

ABBOT, Maine — An Abbot man was injured after reportedly crashing his vehicle into another at the scene of a rollover crash Thursday night.

At about 9:45 p.m., the Piscataquis County Sheriff's Office received a report about a vehicle rollover on Main Road in Abbot, a news release from the sheriff's office said.

Deputies responded to the scene, as well as fire crews from Guilford.

"Members of the Guilford Fire Department arrived in their personal vehicle first and parked with emergency lights flashing in order to try to slow traffic down," the release stated.

While fire crews waited for deputies to arrive, a 2022 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by 29-year-old George Dyke of Abbot crashed into the parked vehicle belonging to a member of the Guilford Fire Department.

Dyke was taken to an area hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, deputies said.

Deputies believe alcohol to be a factor in the crash.

"The driver of the original accident was not injured," the release said.
