Woman charged for making false sexual assault report

PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Portland Police have charged a Bridgton woman with false public alarm or report after she allegedly made a false sexual assault report. 

Sarah Dodge reported to police on Aug. 12 that she had been seuxally assaulted along the Back Cove Trail in Portland. Two days later she recanted her story, said police. 

 

Police issued a criminal summons to Dodge, 34, Thursday. False public alarm or report is punishable by up to 12 months in jail and a fine of up to $2,000. 

The reason behind the false report is unclear, said police. Her arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 1.
