PORTLAND, Maine — Another Starbucks location in Maine is set to close its doors for good.
A spokesperson with the company told NEWS CENTER Maine on Thursday that its location on Congress Street in Portland will permanently close on Nov. 5.
All partners who work at that location have been offered transfers, the spokesperson said.
"As part of Starbucks standard course of business, we continually evaluate our business to ensure a healthy store portfolio. After careful consideration, we have deemed it necessary to close our store in Portland, ME. We’ve enjoyed serving the community at this location and are committed to continuing to do so at our other stores in the area," the spokesperson told NEWS CENTER Maine in a statement.
The store is located in the historic Hay Building, also known as the Charles Q. Clapp Building, at the junction of Congress and Free Streets. The building itself was built in 1826 and listed in the National Register of Historic Places for its architectural significance in 1978.
The designer of the building, Charles Q. Clapp, was a renowned architect in the 19th century, who is credited with several historic buildings in Portland.
