Portland shooting incident leaves 2 men with serious injuries

Both men were taken to Maine Medical Center with injuries that are considered serious but not life-threatening, police said.

PORTLAND, Maine — Two people were injured in a shooting incident on Congress Street in Portland Tuesday night.

A 20-year-old Portland man suffered a gunshot wound, while a 21-year-old man was injured "from an interaction with a vehicle" during the incident, according to a release from Portland police. Both men were taken to Maine Medical Center with injuries that are considered serious but not life-threatening, the release stated.

Officers responded around 8:15 p.m. to a report of a shot fired in the 600 block of Congress Street. Police said minutes later, a vehicle suspected to be involved in the incident was stopped in the parking lot of the Walgreens located at 616 Forest Avenue.

A search warrant was executed during the subsequent investigation and "items of significance to the incident were located," the release said. 

Portland police said they would not be providing further information at this time.
