Portland police investigate death at city's largest encampment

The investigation is ongoing, and the death is not considered suspicious, according to Portland police.

PORTLAND, Maine — Portland police are investigating after a man was found dead at the city's largest homeless encampment Thursday night. 

Officers were called to the city's Harbor View encampment, which is located along Commercial Street under the Casco Bay Bridge, shortly after 9 p.m. Upon arrival, officials found a 52-year-old man dead inside a tent, Portland Police Department spokesperson Brad Nadeau said in a release Friday.

The investigation is ongoing, and the death is not considered suspicious, Nadeau said.

Investigators ask that anyone who may have information call 207-874-8575.

As of Thursday night, there were a total of 208 tents throughout the city, according to the City of Portland's Unhoused Community Dashboard. More than 100 tents recorded were located within the Harbor View encampment.
