Portland police arrest man accused of hitting people with baseball bat

Portland police have arrested a man on assault charges after he allegedly hit two people with a baseball bat Saturday, causing serious injury to both individuals.

PORTLAND, Maine — Portland police have arrested a local man Monday on assault charges after he allegedly hit two people with a baseball bat over the weekend, causing serious injury to both individuals. 

Police responded shortly after 3:30 p.m. Saturday to a wooded area off Riverside Street, where it was reported that a man was assaulting people, Portland police said Monday in a news release. 

The man allegedly struck two people with a baseball bat. Both individuals suffered serious injuries and were brought to Maine Medical Center in Portland, according to the release. 

One of the two individuals suffered injuries police said were considered life-threatening. That person was listed as "stable" Monday, though the exact condition for either individual was not provided in the release. 

Investigators identified the suspect as 44-year-old Ramon Nunez-Rozario of Portland, who was arrested Monday morning.
