Death at Portland campsite ruled suspicious, police say

Officials said they found a 36-year-old man dead Wednesday, and an autopsy would be performed to determine the cause and manner of his death.

PORTLAND, Maine — The death of a man at a campsite near the Fore River Parkway Trail System is being considered suspicious, according to Portland police

In a news release Thursday morning, Portland police reported they were called to the campsite around 4:40 p.m. Wednesday for a person in need of medical assistance.

Officials said they found a 36-year-old man dead, and an autopsy would be performed by the state medical examiner to determine the cause and manner of his death.

Because of the incident, Wednesday night officials said Northern Light Mercy Hospital took "precautionary measures" at the entrance, but the hospital was later given the all-clear.

Investigators are urging anyone with any information to please call them at 207- 874-8575.
