PORTLAND, Maine — A man was arrested and charged shortly after allegedly robbing a post office in Portland on Monday.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. at the post office at 125 Forest Ave., Portland police said Tuesday in a press release.
The suspect, later identified as 32-year-old Jacobie Jefferson, allegedly approached the counter and threatened to shoot the clerk while demanding staff open the register. The clerk refused to open the register, and the man quickly left the post office with further threats, according to police. He was located in Deering Oaks Park a short time later and taken into custody, police said.
Jefferson, whom police say is unhoused, was charged with robbery, criminal threatening, refusing to submit to arrest or detention, indecent conduct, and violating conditions of release. He also had an outstanding warrant, according to police.
Jefferson was taken to the Cumberland County Jail.
