Pedestrian, 66, dies in Portland crash

As of Thursday morning, police said no charges had been filed.

PORTLAND, Maine — A 66-year-old woman from Connecticut died Wednesday after being hit by a car in Portland.

The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. as Cynthia Karst was crossing Franklin Street at the intersection of Congress Street, Portland police said Thursday in a press release.

Karst died at the scene, according to police. She was from Ridgefield, Connecticut, the release stated.

The car that hit Karst was driven by a 36-year-old man from Portland, police said. Officials have not publicly identified him.

Police are reconstructing and investigating the crash. As of Thursday morning, police said no charges had been filed.
