Police investigating shots fired in Portland

Police said a gas line was struck during the incident.

PORTLAND, Maine — The Portland Police Department is investigating shots fired in the area of 12 Eleanor Street on Sunday night.

It happened shortly before 11 p.m., the department said Monday in a press release.

When police got to the scene, they found several bullet holes in the front of the duplex, according to the release. 

Officers could also smell gas due to a gas line having been struck, the release stated. The Portland Fire Department responded and turned off the gas line, and Unitil was notified, officials said.
