PORTLAND, Maine — Fire crews in Portland were busy Tuesday morning after multiple calls came in across the city.
The Portland fire chief confirmed with NEWS CENTER Maine that crews responded to reports of fires made to the department Tuesday morning. At least four calls were made, and more than 50 firefighters were sent out to respond to those.
The majority of the calls were quickly cleared, but crews who responded to a structure fire on Washington Avenue required mutual aid.
Crews there told NEWS CENTER Maine that the fire was believed to have started in the basement near a furnace.

A portion of Washington Avenue was closed to traffic Tuesday morning while crews were at the scene.
No injuries were reported in the Washington Avenue all-hands fire, but a family was temporarily displaced by the fire. Firefighters said the house was not a total loss, but the family should be able to return as soon as the basement is cleared and cleaned.
South Portland and Falmouth fire crews assisted at the scene.
Fire officials also confirmed they were called to the Holiday Inn for a burned scooter, Aura, a location on State Street, and the ReStore location on Warren Avenue for a boiler problem.
Deputy Fire Chief John Hendricks of the Portland Fire Department told NEWS CENTER Maine he was grateful for the help from nearby crews, particularly on a day when multiple calls came in at the same time.
Several of the firefighters went from scene to scene.
