PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- Though maybe not like a lamb, Portland's fire chief will also be "going out" in his own way at the end of March.
City Manager Jon Jennings broke the news Tuesday morning about Chief David Jackson's retirement.
After four months as acting chief, Jackson stepped into the job permanently in February 2016. But his relationship with the department extends back much further.
Jackson joined the Portland F.D. as a firefighter in 1990. His rise through ranks included stints as Lieutenant, Captain, Deputy Chief and Assistant Chief.
Jackson's retirement takes effect at the end of the month. Jennings said his search for an interim chief to replace Jackson has already begun.
