PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER Maine) — After less than half a year being closed, a well-known Portland business and pioneer of Maine's craft beer industry is set to reopen.
Hailed as the first place in Portland to pour a pint, $3 Deweys is set to open at its original location, 241 Commercial Street, in spring of 2019.
Patrons were stunned when the ale house closed in July 2018. Now under new management, the bar is set to reopen at the same location in the Old Port but with a new look and a new menu.
Joe Christopher, who formerly founded Three Rivers Whitewater, Inc., will be managing $3 Deweys.
Christopher says they will be keeping the pub true to its roots with 36 tap lines, serving beers from Maine and away and will continue the tradition of serving free popcorn.
$3 Deweys got started by Alan D. Eames at its Old Port location in 1980. Eames was known as a pioneer of Maine's craft beer scene and earned the reputation as the “Indiana Jones of Beer” for bringing ales from all over the world to the Pine Tree State.
